About this Place Of Interest

Wat Yai Chai Mongkol or the Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory is located a few kilometers southeast of Ayutthaya, in the present Phai Ling Sub-district. This temple was built by King Ramathibodhi, as a holy monument (stupa) and a preaching hall (viharn) for his two deceased sons. The temple has been linked to many Ayutthaya historical events, such as when Buddhist monks made it their home; when conspirators consulted an oracle to overthrow the throne of Khun Worawongsa; and when King Naresuan battled the Burmese Army. Today the temple stands as an important historical temple in Ayutthaya and has become one of the most popular tourist landmarks of Thailand.
