About this Place Of Interest

One of the most iconic sites located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur is the Petronas Twin Towers, which was built to house the headquarters of Petroliam Nasional Berhad or Petronas. Founded in 1971, Petronas is the country’s fully integrated oil and gas multinational company. The Petronas Twin Towers stand majestically at 451.9 metres and the entire complex sits over 40 hectares of land. It was designed by award winning Argentine American architect, César Pelli, and built by Korean and Japanese contractors. The 88-storey building, which took about six years to built, was officiated by the country’s fourth prime minister, Tun. Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on August 31, 1999. Beginning 1998, the Petronas Twin Towers held the record of being the world’s tallest building for six years. Although the record is now held by Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the former still holds the Guinness World Records for being the world’s tallest matching pair of buildings [1]. One of the main attractions of this point of interest is the Skybridge, located between the two towers on the 41st and 42nd floor. The 58m long bridge is 170m above ground. From the Skybridge, visitors are able to admire the splendid KLCC Lake Symphony Fountain, the KLCC Park and the sky blue public swimming pool. From the Observation Deck located on the 86th floor, the view of Kuala Lumpur’s development and progress as the capital of Malaysia is unmistakable.
