Wat Yai Chai Mongkhol is a historic Buddhist temple in Ayutthaya. It is regularly mentioned in the history of Ayutthaya as the home of Buddhist monks after they were ordained and trained in Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka). King Naresuan, in 1592, ordered the restoration and enlargement of the temple after his success against the Burmese Army. The ‘Wat Yai Chai Mongkhol’ is given, with the meaning ‘The Great Temple of Auspicious Victory’.
