If you have ever fancied experiencing Vietnamese rural lifestyle, head directly to Thoi Son Island, which is also known as Cu lao Thoi Son, Con Lan Island or Unicorn Island. Located along the Mekong River, this is one of four famous islands in the Tien Giang Province. It is accessible through a boat ride from My Tho Jetty and afterwards by a sampan ride through the canals of Mekong River. The view of countless palm groves surely offers a unique experience of the island, which is best known for its tropical fruits orchards and coconut candy production. While exploring the island, visitors will also be able to see and shop for crafts and utensils made from coconut trees. Alternatively, visitors can choose to just relax and enjoy fresh cut fruits, seafood, and honey tea or water coconut, while being entertained by Southern Vietnamese folk music known as Don Ca Tai Tu. Tourism in Thoi Son Island began to flourish in the 1990s and has since improved the livelihood of about 6,000 villagers.
