About this Place Of Interest

The Burma Railway, also known as the Death Railway, was a 415 km long railway between Thailand and Burma built by the Empire of Japan in 1943 to support its forces in the Burmese campaign of World War II. Between 180,000 and 250,000 Southeast Asian civilian labourers (rōmusha) and about 61,000 Allied prisoners of war were subjected to forced labour during its construction, resulting in the deaths of about 90, 000 civilian labourers and more than 12, 000 Allied prisoners. This museum commemorates the horrors of the Death Railway as a reminder to future generations of the price of war.
