About this Place Of Interest

Sipisopiso, which literally means "like a knife", is the name of the tallest waterfall in Indonesia. Located in Tonggiang village in Tanah Karo regency, the long and narrow waterfall can be reached 45 minutes from Berastagi. Sipisopiso is formed from a small underground river of the Karo Plateau and flows out of a cave within the Toba caldera. The waterfall drops 120 meters into a gorge below. Nearby is Lake Toba, a natural lake that occupies the caldera of an ancient supervolcano, the Toba. The lake, dubbed the Monaco of Asia, is said to be the largest volcanic lake in the world and covers over 1,707 sq km. Right in the centre of the lake is a wedge-shaped island known as Samosir Island. Lake Toba formed after a huge volcanic eruption some 75,000 years ago. The eruption was said to be one of the most violent in geological history [1].
